FNB’s innovative payments solutions provide a combination of ease and secure ways of assisting customers with their everyday banking. From immediate contactless payments to card purchases, the options are great.
Whether you’re on Android or iOS, there are digital wallets available to store your FNB virtual cards so you can make secured payments easily for online purchases – think Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay – or make contactless payments physically in-store.
If you have a wearable device like a smartwatch, you can also load your FNB virtual cards onto it, eliminating the need to carry a physical wallet.
Always remember that it is far safer to use a virtual card, which you can generate on the FNB app, and load it onto your devices instead of carrying a physical card around, which could get lost or stolen. FNB’s virtual card also has a dynamic CVV, which makes online purchases more secure.
If you find yourself at a restaurant, retail market store or pharmacy, etc, you may see QR Code payments being accepted, and once again, FNB lets you “Scan to Pay” directly from the app under the “Pay” tab. If you can’t scan the code, you can insert the short code manually. There is a global scanner on the app as well on the top right corner which is easier to access.
Recharged has previously covered ways to pay digitally, which you can read here:
In this post, we will focus on the following four payment methods – eWallet vs GeoPayments vs PayShap vs Instant Pay:
1. EWALLET
eWallet – Not to confuse the digital wallet solution with our traditional eWallet solution. You are correct if you’re thinking eWallet is not a new form of payment from FNB. eWallet still allows you to send money to a recipient with just a cellphone number.
Here’s a quick how-to guide:
STEP 1: Log into your FNB app and head to the “Pay” tab and tap on the “Pay” button
STEP 2: Go into “eWallet”, which is now listed as an option to pay
STEP 3: Head to the “To” field to “Send Money”, and fill in the amount to send and the recipient’s cell number and hit “Send”
STEP 4: For your own safety, FNB will ask if the information is correct and you have to slide the toggle to say yes and then tap “Yes, send money”
STEP 5: Another message to warn you of a scam will show up and once again, you can say “Continue, send money”
STEP 6: You will see a summary of your transaction, how the recipient can access funds, and an option to “Send ATM Pin to recipient cell”, which you can confirm. And that’s how you send an eWallet from the FNB banking app. The function is still available on our other banking channels such as FNB Online Banking, Cellphone banking and FNB ATM.
eWallet Pro – is a low value payment solution for Business clients. Payments are processed from an FNB business account into a wallet. FNB eWallet Pro clients can make single or bulk payments. Funds in the wallet can be accessed via a cell phone or Visa debit card. The Recipient can do withdrawals, prepaid purchases and POS purchases.

STEP 5: If the recipient is using an eWallet Pro card, they are able to withdraw funds from any ATM, make purchases by swiping at point-of-sale terminals or withdraw cash at any of FNB’s retail partners.
STEP 6: If the recipient is using their cellphone as an access mechanism, they have the option to dial *120*277#, obtain a One-Time-Pin number and head to any FNB ATM and make a cardless withdrawal.

It is convenient when you want to pay someone for a gift they purchased on your behalf or splitting the bill with someone at the restaurant.

The transaction costs as little as R7 from your banking app and is limited to transactions of up to R3000. If you want to avoid your physical card getting stolen, lost, or cloned, try to set up your virtual card soonest, and make use of the above payment methods where possible. The eWallet function now on the FNB app is super convenient.
