iCaur launches in SA and V23 price reveal

There’s been a lot of hype around the new iCaur brand, which falls under the Chery Group in South Africa. The parent company also owns Omoda & Jaecoo, Jetour and Lepas.

After Recharged got a first drive in the all electric iCaur V23 and 03T in March this year, the brand has officially launched in South Africa and revealed prices for the V23.

At the launch event in Soccer City on Thursday, 28 May, the brand showed off the retro-inspired V23, a highly customisable vehicle, in a range of wraps, colours and designs. It sits below the 03T model and is positioned as an efficient offering with the latest technology but value for money.

The V23 measures 4,220mm from stem to stern, and has a 2,735mm wheelbase. It seats five across two rows, and has a boot capacity of 372L, which increases to 994L when the rear seats are folded flat.

Both V23 models come standard with a 15.4-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice commands, plenty of USB-C and A ports, wireless phone charging and a 7 speaker iCaur sound system. They also have leather sets and ventilated front seats.

In terms of safety features, the V23 has 6 airbags (dual front, front side, and side curtain), ISOFIX child seat mounts, and driver assistance features like ESP, traction control, EBA, and Brake Assist.

The 2WD has cruise control and a reverse camera, while the AWD has a 540-degree surround view camera system. Additionally, the AWD has the following Active Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS):

  • 8 year/160 000km battery warranty (1st owner)
  • 5 year/100 000km service plan
  • 8 year/200 000km roadside assistance

The first 150 Customers who buy the V23 and 03T models will get a 7kW home wallbox charger, while a 3.3kW 3-pin plug charger comes standard. All customers will also receive a GridCars charge card use at public chargers, though there is no confirmation if credit will be loaded onto it.
