Google has been rolling out Gemini on Gmail to integrate more AI features to help with productivity. There’s a good chance you don’t want its AI learning from and reading your emails.

Some of the smart features allow for things like nudges, to suggest you reply to emails; smart reply, which shows suggestions; and then thing like grammar, spelling, auto-correct, smart compose which is personalised to your writing style, etc. If you don’t like AI thinking for you – you are not alone, this is why I dislike algorithms, then here’s what you do:
How To: Disable Gemini on Gmail
STEP 1: Open Gmail on a we browser and go into Settings
STEP 2: Click on ‘See All Settings’
STEP 3: Scroll all the way down to Smart Features and untick ‘Turn on smart features in Gmail, Chat and Meet’
STEP 4: Agree to “Turn off and reload” after which your email will reload.

And that’s it! You don’t have to let Gemini read and learn from your personal, professional or private emails.
