It will begin selling cars in South Africa in the fourth quarter of 2025, and reportedly plans to open 35 dealers by 2027.

The established player from Saudi Arabia has a presence in over ten countries in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Asia and most recently Australia. It is set to bring Changan’s SUVs, sedans, pickups and new energy vehicles (NEV) to South Africa, plus Deepal’s electric range.

As the largest automotive market in Africa, Jameel Motors sees its entry into South Africa as a long-term investment opportunity, it said, citing new vehicle sales totalling over 500 000 in 2024.

The company says its commitment to South Africa includes creating jobs and developing local dealerships, and contributing to the economic growth of the country.

The Chinese based Changan Automobile joins a growing list of automakers that are available in South Africa, including the Chery Group, GWM, and BAIC, who offer vehicles with affordable price points when compared to their German counterparts.

The South African arm of Jameel Motors will be led by Marinus Venter, an accomplished professional with 18 years of experience leading automotive brands such as Nissan and Mercedes-Benz Vans.

Marinus Venter, Country Manager, Jameel Motors South Africa says: “By leveraging Jameel Motors’ extensive experience and Changan Automobile’s renowned focus on safety, quality, and technology, I believe we can effectively meet the diverse automotive demands of South African drivers and deliver a positive market experience.”
