Oppo South Africa has launched the Find N2 Flip in South Africa, bringing its Find N brand to the African continent for the first time. Previously, its first Find N folding tablet was launched in China only, and while the Find N2 is not available in SA, the clamshell version will be going on sale today, 31 March.

I have written about the Find N2 Flip from my visit to Mobile World Congress in Spain recently, you can read more on News24 here.

In a nutshell, the N2 Flip is unique because of its large 3.26-inch vertical cover display, the largest on a flip phone currently. It allows users to do and see more without opening the phone unnecessarily. Some of these include answering calls, replying to messages, adjusting your settings, checking notifications, etc.

The device features a Flexion Hinge that sits between 45 and 100 degrees, allowing you to prop up the device and use it hands-free like a tripod. This could be for video or work calls, taking videos and photos, or watching multimedia content. In terms of durability, it has been tested to withstand over 400 000 folds.

The camera was co-created by Hasselblad, and features a 50MP main shooter, and an 8MP ultra-wide camera, complemented by a 32MP selfie-cam with autofocus. It also lets users take high res selfies with the main camera and preview it on the cover screen so you can see what it looks like.

It is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ chipset, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage and a large 4300mAh battery. It is currently the largest battery on a flip phone. I’ve only had brief hands-on time with the device and looking forward to spending more time with it.

As expected from Oppo, it features a 44W SuperVooc fast charging capabilities, which takes it to 50% in about 23 minutes.

The Find N2 Flip will be available in matte black or purple, available today in South Africa on prepaid for R29 999 or on contract from R1199pm across networks for the 8GB/256GB variant.

At the launch event last night, Oppo announced a partnership with South African designer Rich Mnisi who will design limited edition covers and accessories available via lucky draws on the Oppo Rewards app to customers who purchase the handset.

I was part of a panel discussion at the Find N2 Flip launch last night speaking about smartphone design at the Cradle Moon Lakeside Game Lodge.
