The triple-folding screen device has been listed on the Huawei SA website for an eye-watering R70 000, making it South Africa most expensive mobile device.

The Mate XT joins the Mate X6 in South Africa for purchase, which is listed for R40 000. The Mate XT is available in red or black, while the X6 is available in black or grey.

The Mate XT has a 10.2-inch tablet sized display that folds twice to fit in the pocket, while remaining almost as slim as a regular smartphone. Unfolded, it measures 3.6mm thin, which is remarkable considering a USB-C port is 2.6mm thin.

It weighs 298g, and as a single screen device offers a 6.4-inch display, and a 7.9-inch as a dual screen. Its OLED display has a 90Hz screen refresh rate and offers a 3K resolution when fully opened.

It is powered by a Kirin 9010 Octa-core processor with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, with a 5600mAh battery and dual-SIM slot. According to the South African website, it comes with Huawei Care+ with four times free film over two years and the Huawei Mate XT Care+ for 1 time screen protection within one year.

The Mate XT has a 50MP+12MP+12MP triple rear cameras; and an 8MP wide-angle selfie camera. Its rear ultra-wide lens supports 5.5x telephoto.

Huawei South Africa says its OLED display and aluminium framing is reinforced with Kunlun Glass that is a 25x improvement in drop resistance.

It can run up to three apps simultaneously.
