Vodacom has introduced Google Play Store data bundles in collaboration with the internet search giant, and claims it a world first from a mobile operator.
The operator says Android users will be able to browse, download and update their favourite apps from the Google Play Store, without the anxiety of additional data costs.
Zunaid Mahomed, Vodacom’s group digital and fixed officer says, “We have set our sights on reducing the barriers to access the Google Play Store by introducing bundles that will simplify the process for consumers and translate to savings in data spend in the process.”
Mariam Abdullahi, director of platform partnerships for Android and Play at Google says, “We are pleased to support/facilitate Vodacom’s data users to browse, download and update their favourite applications and games from the Google Play Store without having to worry about their data balance. This is an important step in providing affordable access to the Google Play Store to data conscious smartphone users.”
The prices and bundles are as follows:
BUNDLE | ALLOCATION | VALIDITY | PRICE |
200MB Google Play Store Data | 200 | 1 Day | R5 |
250MB Google Play Store Data | 250 | 3 Days | R15 |

Cost saving: Customers will save on data costs linked to updating or downloading the latest apps, as the bundle prices have been reduced.
Always connected: Customers will not need to wait to download or update essential apps. The bundle purchase will be instant and can be consumed immediately, ensuring that customers are always connected to what is important to them.
