Parents today are tasked with balancing the use of technology with meaningful play-based activities through effective integration. A lot goes into it if we’re conscious and intentional about evolving in the technology-driven world that we live in.
I believe it is essential that we introduce technology to young children, mindfully, in the early stages of their education and mold a genuine understanding of how to use digital technologies prior to entering an early childhood learning environment.
Introducing technology in an age-appropriate manner is especially significant if you or your child is exposed to and has access to technology, and it can be an opportunity to deepen those passions while also encouraging exploration.
I’m excited to share my curated tech gift guide for kids in this month’s column featuring 10 toys and gadgets suitable for children between the ages of 3 and 16.
By now, you may have spotted the tinsel and fairy lights going up in stores as we move towards the end of 2024. Though the annual festivities seem like it’s still a way away, I think it’s wise to start filling your cart ahead of Black Friday too.
Whether it’s birthdays, special occasions or general holiday gifting, the same question arises; what do I get that I know they’ll love and may want to keep for years to come? It can be simple, with the five-gift rule in mind guiding your buying decision.
Follow the five-gift rule
In the five-gift rule, the first four gifting suggestions are straightforward:
- Want – this is something they really want, which may be a splurge.
- Need – this is something they need, suited to their hobbies, interests, and lifestyle.
- Wear – something to wear, bonus points if it’s aligned to their sense of style.
- Read – books can be one of the most thoughtful gifts you can give, it’s also a classic and safe choice.
- Unusual gift – this is where you can really have fun choosing something that’s nifty, trending, and introducing them to technology in creative age-specific ways.
