I’m so excited that Comic Con is coming to South Africa later this year! I’ve been wanting to go to the San Diego one for years, and even signed up to buy tickets but it’s such a process and there’s no guarantee your partner will also get a ticket. You get sent a link to wait in a virtual queue, and then you’re allowed into the site through a lottery system, but you can only buy one ticket per person, if you get in. That said, I hope the South African one isn’t going to sell tickets that way.

Anyway, back to the major news that I’m sure you’ve seen all over the web, the official Comic Con that you know of (some of you through the Big Bang Theory) is making its way to South Africa from 14-16 September at the Kyalami racetrack. It will be brought to SA by headline sponsor VS Gaming and Reed Exhibitions Africa, the latter already involved in the global events such as Comic Con NYC, Star Wars Celebration, TwitchCon and PAX.

If you’re a fan of sci-fi and fantasy, or just general geekery you can expect lots of pop culture and entertainment in animation, toys, gadgets, clothing, anime, manga, collectible card games, video games, comics, fantasy novels, etc… according to the media release. There is good reason it will take place at the racetrack – for some unique experiences around the track relating to racing games.

Furthermore, they have confirmed international guests Nolan North (some of you know him as the voices behind Nathan Drake in Uncharted; and Desmond Miles from Assassin’s Creed; or Peter Hastings from Pretty Little Liars); and Troy Baker (another video game voice actor with a long list of credentials). They are in negotiations to bring possible cast members from Game of Thrones and the Big Bang Theory. Follow VS Gaming on social media for updates.

Two cast members from Black Panther, Dr John Kani and Connie Chiume were at the media event, where they took part in a Q&A session, sharing interesting bits of information from being cast in Black Panther. Like how Dr Kani had to deal with a  white ‘language coach’ in the US on how he should sound like an African… oh the LOLS. I also got to meet T’Chaka, what a great guy! #WakandaForever

I’m keeping a close eye on all news relating to Comic Con SA, like ticket prices too!
