Spotify South Africa pilots new subscription plans

Spotify has announced it is piloting a new subscription portfolio for South Africa with various tiers to cater to diverse user needs. The new plans include Spotify Premium Lite, Spotify Premium Standard, Spotify Premium Platinum and a Student plan.

New Spotify SA pricing:

• Premium Student – R47.99 per month
• Premium Lite – R69.99 per month
• Premium Standard – R94.99 per month
• Premium Platinum – R179.99 per month

Spotify says the new plans is meant to reflect the engagement insights it is seeing across the platform.

“While Spotify has become even more central to people’s lives, those behaviours aren’t universal—so we’re introducing options that consistently meet more of users’ needs, with local strategies aligned to each market,” it said.

The company says its Premium Platinum plan is “designed to deliver the ultimate Spotify experience” and will launch new product features for South Africans.

This includes getting access to Lossless audio, a feature that Spotify announced years ago at Spotify HiFi in 2021. Other features include third party DJ integration and mixing tools, in addition to existing features like Jam and daylist.

Eligible subscribers in South Africa will also get access to Audiobooks in Premium Platinum, with 12 hours of listening time with optional 10-hour top-ups.

The company says at launch, users can choose from more than 150 000 English language titles with features like automatic book marking, Sleep Timer and discovery via Home.
