Cisco Webex expands Point of Presence in South Africa

Cisco has introduced a local Point of Presence (POP) for its Webex Calling and Webex contact centre services in South Africa.

The launch event took place the Randburg Golf Club on Wednesday, 29 January.

The service will leverage Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centres in locally, and allow businesses of all sizes to embrace an immersive hybrid work model and enhance customer services, says Cisco.

The networking and security giant says the launch highlights its commitment to customers by “increasing demand for advanced and secure cloud communication solutions in Sub-Saharan Africa”.

The AWS collaboration ensures that voice and video calling traffic for Webex Calling will remain in South Africa, which would enhance call quality, reduce latency, and strengthen security resilience for customers, said Cisco.

“Businesses will be able to transition to cloud calling confidently with an enterprise-grade experience.”

For Webex Contact Centre customers, the PoP will provide a variety of cloud-based services, all backed by Cisco’s existing communications infrastructure.

Cisco adds that the PoP features an AI-powered platform that integrates seamlessly with Cisco’s cloud calling solutions.
