vivo has taken the wraps off its highly anticipated vivo X200 Pro smartphone at a media event in Vodacom World on Tuesday, 21 January.

The new flagship boasts a state-of-the-art 200MP telephoto camera co-engineered with ZEISS.

The X200 Pro is a photography powerhouse, featuring the vivo ZEISS Co-engineered Imaging System packed with powerful hardware and innovative software, making it a great choice for taking versatile photos.

The 200MP telephoto camera offers a superior long-distance shooting experience, allowing users to capture more intricate details, even in low-light conditions.

It is made up of a trio of lenses, comprising of a 200MP telephoto + 50MP ZEISS main + 50MP ultra-wide, while the selfie-cam is 32MP.

The rear shooter has a 1/1.4-inch sensor and a floating periscope system that will bring distant details to life, while the ZEISS APO colour correction lets users capture sharp images that are true-to-life, even using zoom.

Under the hood

The X200 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset, using a second-gen all-big-core CPU that prioritises efficiency and delivers exceptional performance.

It has a 12-core GPU for an unrivalled mobile gaming experience. If that wasn’t all, its V3+ Imaging chip is built on a 6nm processor that can offer a 30% boost in energy efficiency, which helps produce cinematic portrait videos effortlessly.

The dual flagship chip allows the X200 Pro to shine when it comes to image processing and sustained performance.

It offers 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, alongside a whopping 6000mAh battery. The phone offers a 90W FlashCharge speed, and a 30W Wireless FlashCharge.

Design and Display

The X200 Pro comes in titanium grey and is rated IP68 and IP69. The dimensions are 162.36 x 75.94 x 8.49mm and weighs 228g.

The 6.78-inch screen has a 120Hz screen refresh rate with a resolution of 2800 x 1260 pixels, and brightness levels reaching up to 4500nits.

It has built-in eye care technology that enhances the display clarity, power efficiency and longevity through its 2160Hz high-frequency PWM dimming.

Google Gemini and AI capabilities

The X200 Pro integrates Google Gemini, its popular AI assistant to boost creativity and productivity. Users can ask Gemini to help with tasks like draft emails, plan events, and explore new learning opportunities.

vivo enhances the productivity suite with tools like AI Note Assist and AI Transcript Assist, plus incorporating Circle to Search to quickly search images, videos and text without switching apps.

The camera AI capabilities include AI Erase, AI Photo Enhance and Shadow Removal for seamless photo editing.

Funtouch OS 15

vivo’s Funtouch OS 15 enhances the user experience with modern visual design, improved security and optimised performance for a smooth, responsive experience.

To keep your data safe, the device has a special Security Chip that protects your lock screen passwords and biometric data. Also, the Secure Data Purge feature makes sure your data is completely deleted.

Pricing and availability

The vivo X200 Pro will retail on prepaid for R39 999 and will be available online on Amazon South Africa from 22 January. It can also be secured on contract exclusively through Vodacom from 7 February at select Vodacom stores for R1 899 x 24 months or R1 399 x 36 months.

The X200 Pro also comes with a VIP experience that covers 1 full accidental screen damage protection (within the first 180 days), a three-year warranty, a free cover and screen protector, free labour costs on repairs, and free postal service for repairs.
