Rain launches Loop for music and WiFi on-the-go

Rain has introduced a new portable, handheld gadget that lets you take your WiFi and music anywhere.

It comes in four fun colours: orange, green, beige and pink, ready for a party.

Android-based

The Loop is described as an Android based hand portable device that is a combination of a 5G router, stereo music player, and held-held camera, among other features on this touchscreen device.

As a rain exclusive, the Loop offers a rechargeable battery and a scan-to-connect method on its large touch screen that makes WiFi sharing easier.

It also supports stereo speakers, which let you download and stream music, without requiring Bluetooth pairing of an external device.

A built-in camera means one can take selfies using the timer mode or make video calls, again, without reaching for a smartphone.

Introducing Loopzones

The Loop introduces a feature called “loopzones” where users can access free unlimited data, while pricing remains per GB everywhere else. Loopzones let you connect with the community in selected public spaces.

It supports dual SIM and Rain’s “smartswitching” technology to jump between those points so users can pay for unlimited data in the spots they use it the most.

Loop Pricing

The Loop is available as part of a monthly subscription, or you can buy it outright and choose a data plan.

The per GB month-to-month contract starts at R475 per month and has 25GB a month, free access to open loopzones and the option to buy more data as needed.

The unlimited option called ‘unlizones’ is R675 per month, and includes unlimited data at one location of your choice, 10GB of data month, free access to loopzones, and the option to buy more for the unlizones and more data.

The outright purchase price is R5 999 once-off and data at R475 for the unlizone option or R250 for the per GB option, outlined above.
