MTN has introduced a new fibre to the home offering starting at R349 per month. MTN Fibre will offer high-speed internet and monthly rates will cover router and installation costs, according to a media release. The packages are available as month-to-month and customers can cancel at anytime they wish.
Potential customers can visit fibre.mtn.co.za to see if their area is covered, or contact MTN directly.
A quick search in Johannesburg North showed availability, but Sandton Central, for example, is not covered.
Interestingly, the rates offered for Jhb North were not R349pm, instead, the cheapest of the seven packages offered starts at 20Mbps at R449pm. MTN said in its release: “New customers can save up to R150 per month for the first three months as part of the launch promotion, available in selected areas”.
The results were as follows, using the Metro Fibre network:
A quick comparison to RocketNet in the same area using Metro Fibre revealed that that MTN is cheaper for all packages. RocketNet’s 20Mbps package is R475 per month and its 1000Mbps is R1755 per month.
According to TechCentral, packages on the Vumatel network differ slightly, which is area dependent, and works out to a 500Mbps package coming in at R789 per month; and R889 for a 1000Mbps/1Gbps line with upload speeds of 250Mbps. Refer to TechCentral for the full list of Vumatel prices.
