I went on Afternoon Drive with John Maytham on CapeTalk to speak about the new Samsung Galaxy Fold, that has a price tag of R44 000 in South Africa. Samsung South Africa told me in a meeting I had with them at their offices that a total of 200 units were allocated to the South African market, and subsequently, all pre-orders are sold out. Consumers will get their devices on Friday, 18 October.
I’ve had two interactions with the device, one earlier this year, the model that didn’t make it to retail outlets, and the second improved version, with a better protected screen, stronger hinges and other re-enforcements.
