Nintendo

The original Nintendo Switch was released in March 2017, and now, eight years later, the reveal of its successor. The handheld gaming device has been hugely popular with over 146 million units sold as of September 2024.

And since then, we’ve seen other handheld gaming consoles enter the market, with a bunch more at CES 2025.

No hardware specifications, prices or a release date was given for the Switch 2, other than it will arrive in “2025”.

The Switch 2 looks bigger, is slimmer, has large triggers, a new button, plus a bigger redesigned kickstand with more flexibility.

The Joy-Cons appear to have mouse-like functionality, with new colours, a light blue and peach highlights on a black controller.

Nintendo will host a Nintendo Switch 2 Experience at various cities in April and May, however, South Africa is not included on the list.

More information will be shared at its Nintendo Direct event on 2 April 2025.
