The new Magic V3 weighs a mere 226g, slimmer than the Magic V2 at 231g. Honor says the new Magic V3 is currently the world’s thinnest inward foldable device. It is 9.2mm thin when closed, and 4.35mm when opened.

It is noticeably different to its predecessor, featuring an octagon-dome inspired design on the back camera. The camera bump now comprises of a 50MP 100X periscope telephoto lens; 50MP wide-angle; and 40MP ultra-wide angle lenses. The front camera is 20MP but all cameras shoot in 4K.

The Magic V3 is now the first foldable that is rated IPX8 for water resistance up to 2.5m; and it also gets 66W wireless charging. It also has the Magic Pen stylus support.

It is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, Adreno 750 GPU, 12GB of RAM and 51GB of storage. It features Honor’s third-generation super slim, credit card sized silicon carbon battery with a 5150mAh capacity.

The new foldable features a super steel 2.84mm thin hinge that has been tested for 500 000 folds. It also has an anti-scratch nano crystal shield on the display that makes it 10x more scratch- and drop-resistant.

The company says the V3 is the first time mobile phones have been armoured with aerospace-grade fibres that enhances its impact resistance by 40 times, which also makes it light yet solid in the hand.

The Magic V3 has a 7.92-inch front display when opened, and a 6.43-inch cover display when closed. Both have 1-120Hz screen refresh rates on their OLED displays with 5000nits of peak brightness.

AI-specific features include a power management system, motion sensing capture, Harcourt Portrait, Defocus Display, Magic Portal, Magic Ring, AI Eraser, Face to Face Translation, Notes, and security architecture.

Colourways include green, reddish brown and black. The Magic V3 also supports the Magic Pen.

The Magic V3 is priced at €1999, which converts directly to R39 270, but Honor South Africa has yet to share ZAR prices. The Magic V2 launched in South Africa in March 2024.

Edit: Honor South Africa CEO Fred Zhou has confirmed the Magic V3 will arrive in Q1 2025.
