First Look: Honor Magic 8 Pro

Honor South Africa has quietly introduced its new Magic 8 Pro flagship device at a media roundtable at its head office in Johannesburg this week.

The successor to the Magic 7 Pro is not getting an official launch, however it will go on sale on 1 March at local retailers.

Honor is hoping to eat into Samsung’s marketshare in South Africa with this 6.71-inch flagship that will sell for R27 999 when it hits the shelves. It will be available in a single shade called “Sunrise Gold.”

It does photograph differently depending on the light source but overall I like the colour. In person, it’s subtle; a more a muted shade of gold.

The device feels sturdy in the hand, and is characterised by a large round camera bump, just like its predecessor, plus it is similar to the back of the Magic V5. Its dimensions are 161.2mm x 7.5mm x 8.3mm and it weighs 219g.

It is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, Adreno 840 GPU with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Its battery capacity is 7100mAh, using silicon carbon to keep it slim, which is also a big jump from last year’s 5850mAh. It supports 100W wired charging and 80W wireless charging.

It has a 200MP main telephoto lens, supplemented with a 50MP ultra-wide and 50MP wide-angle lenses, while the selfie-cam is also 50MP wide-angle.

Honor is punting its new AiMAGE AI engine for night shots in low light that have a customised exposure timer, plus it has a Stage Mode to capture content at concerts from a distance. A new Magic Colour also tunes images in one touch.

Other AI features include AI subtitles, plus it has a new one touch AI Button, similar to what we saw on the iPhone 16 Pro. It can be used for various settings that the user wants quick access to.

It also features Honor’s AI comfort display, a surround sound subwoofer, 3D facial unlocking, 5G connectivity, eSIM support, WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0.

As mentioned, the Honor Magic 8 Pro will be available on 1 March 2026 for a RRP of R27 999.

Stay tuned for long term update.
