The Disney+ streaming service has been given a South African launch date of 18 May 2022, including 41 other countries. Local pricing has also been confirmed at R119 per month, or R1190 for an annual subscription.
The catalogue will be slightly different to due to licensing agreements across different markets, according to Disney+ but will feature exclusive original content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic.
Confirmed shows for the SA market at launch include The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian from executive producer and writer Jon Favreau, as well as Marvel Studios’ series Moon Knight, and Academy Award nominated movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of The Ten Rings.
Other titles available at launch include Luca, Encanto, and Cruella. General entertainment includes The Simpsons, Queens, The Kardashians, and from National Geographic, The World According To Jeff Goldblum.
According to a press release, Disney+ will allow up to four concurrent streams, unlimited downloads on up to ten devices, and the ability to set up to seven different profiles, including the ability for parents to set Kids Profiles that have an easy-to-navigate, child-friendly interface to access age-appropriate content.
