VezoPay ring gets FNB support

FNB has announced support for the VezoPay smart payment ring, launched in 2024 for Visa and Mastercard.

The NFC-enabled wearable is available to both FNB and RMB Private Bank customers, aimed at situations where it’s inconvenient to carry a phone or physical card, says the bank.

FNB and RMB customers can link their virtual cards to the ring via the VezoPay app, enabling secure transactions at any contactless enabled point of sale, it adds.

“In addition to offering enhanced security such as a dynamic CVV number that changes frequently to reduce the risk of fraud, the FNB Virtual Card allows customers to enjoy added benefits such as purchase protection as well as an uninterrupted digital experience, should their card be lost or damaged.”

The bank adds that customers will now have another safe, secure, and seamless tap-and-go contactless payment solution that perfectly complements their active lifestyles.

FNB says it can be used for contactless device payments, including e-commerce purchases, streaming services, and subscription payments.

This comes two weeks after Discovery announced an exclusive partnership with the health and wellness Oura Ring in South Africa.

VezoPay ring does not need charging

The VezoPay payment ring does not have a battery, and is a chargeless device that works with NFC. The ring is durable, and is impact-resistant, waterproof, and dust-proof.

The payment ring offers another secure contactless payment option in South Africa, in addition to smartphones and smart watches. The ring is compatible with FNB’s Virtual Card.

There are various styles to choose from, starting at R2500 for the X Wide, R2700 for the X Slim, R4700 for the Classic and from R21 000 for the Signature.

Senzo Nsibande, CEO of FNB Credit Card says: “This new collaboration provides customers with access to world-class payment solutions, something they have come to expect from FNB. The payments offer greater convenience, enhanced security, and more flexibility in how they choose to transact.”

The bank explains that to enable the contactless payment technology, VezoPay has integrated with Fidesmo, a global contactless services platform, which enables encrypted, token-based transactions, ensuring that sensitive payment credentials are never stored on the ring itself, offering security and peace of mind to customers.

The bank adds that as of August 2025, total retail spend on contactless payment have surpassed R200 billion, reflecting the growing shift towards contactless transactions via smart devices.

It says 58% of these purchases were made using the FNB Virtual Card, while digital wallet transaction volumes have grown by over 42% year-on-year (August 2024 vs August 2025) and 38% year-on-year (FY2024 vs FY2025). Digital wallet spend now accounts for 25% of all retail customer spend, it says.

The VezoPay ring can be purchased on the VezoPay website, but the app is required to use the ring. It can be downloaded on the Google Play Store, thereafter customers can follow prompts to add the ring and bank card to the app. Customers need to ‘make a fist’ with their hand before positioning on top of the point of sale, to make payment.
