Tecno South Africa showcased two new smartphone lines for the local market, the Pova 7 and Spark 40 Series, at its Tecno Turn Up event in Johannesburg last week.
After seeing success in Nigeria and other African markets, Tecno is now turning its attention to South Africa.
Pova 7 Series: Built for Gamers and Power Users
If you’re a mobile gamer, the Pova 7 Series is designed with you in mind. Dubbed the “gamer’s ultimate power partner,” the device stands out immediately with its rugged Interstellar Spaceship Design.
Launching in two variants: the Pova 7 5G (R10 999) and Pova 7 Pro 5G (R12 999), both models bring serious hardware to the table.
They’re equipped with a 6,000mAh battery for all-day performance, along with 45W Flash Charging and 30W Wireless Fast Charging.
The Pova 7 Series introduces a customised typography interface and is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Ultimate AI Processor, tuned for top-tier gaming performance.
Combining with a 144Hz refresh rate display and an impressive 4,500 nits peak brightness, the viewing experience is smooth, immersive, and ready for long gaming sessions.
On the design front, Tecno gives users options with three striking colours: Neon Cyan, Dynamic Grey, and Geek Black. The triangular, textured aesthetic sets it apart from traditional smartphones, cementing its identity as a gamer-first device.
For creators and casual photographers, the Pova 7 Series comes with a 64MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 13MP selfie camera, delivering clarity in both day and night shots.
The devices are IP64 dust and water-resistant and also feature smart AI tools like AI Call Noise Cancellation and AI Eraser 2.0 for added convenience.
Spark 40 Series: Slim and Affordable
While the Pova 7 Series is designed for high performance, the Spark 40 Series prioritises everyday usability and affordability.
Tecno showcased three models for the South African market: the Spark 40 (R2 499), Spark 40S (R3 999), and Spark 40 Pro (R6 999).
At just 6.69mm thin, the Spark 40 Pro feels ultra-lightweight without compromising durability. Its slim design makes it easy to carry and use daily, appealing to students, young professionals, or anyone who values practicality alongside modern features.
One of the standout innovations is FreeLink, a connectivity feature that enables free calls without a mobile signal between the new Tecno devices in this series, within a 500-meter unobstructed range. This feature is handy in areas with unreliable coverage or for close-knit groups of users.
Despite its slim build, the Spark 40 Pro packs power. It comes with a 6,000mAh battery and 45W fast charging, ensuring that users don’t have to compromise on longevity.
The display is equally impressive: a 6.78-inch AMOLED 1.5K panel with a 144Hz refresh rate. Users can look forward to a 50MP main camera, alongside IP64 dust and water resistance, making the device a reliable companion in different environments.
What stood out at the Johannesburg launch was Tecno’s ability to curate devices for different user needs. The Pova 7 Series pushes the envelope for mobile gamers and power users, while the Spark 40 Series makes advanced AI-driven features accessible to budget-conscious buyers.
With this dual offering, Tecno is positioning itself as a serious contender in the South African market, offering devices that strike a balance between performance, design, and innovation across multiple price points.
Both the Pova 7 Series and Spark 40 Series will be available in South Africa from Vodacom stores in the coming weeks.
