If your kitchen counter is starting to resemble an appliance showroom, LG has a possible solution.

Its new 38L SolarDOM combines a microwave, oven, grill, steam cooker and, for the first time, an Air Fry function in one appliance.
LG SOLARDOM WITH AIRFRYER MODE
It’s the first major update to the SolarDOM range in more than a decade, and LG is positioning it as an alternative to having several separate appliances taking up valuable counter space.
The new model uses LG’s Charcoal Lighting Grill, which uses infrared heat rather than a conventional heating element. LG says this can reduce cooking times by up to 30% and energy consumption by 40% compared with its older sheath-heater technology.
Carol Guedes, CE Head of Sales at LG Electronics South Africa says: “We didn’t build this to win an argument against an existing air fryer. It exists to make the case for not needing one in the first place, and everything else that’s crowding the counter alongside it.”
The Air Fry function uses the same heating system to crisp food with little or no added oil. There are also heaters at the top and bottom of the cavity, allowing food to cook from both directions at once. In theory, that means you shouldn’t have to stop halfway through cooking to turn your chicken or vegetables.
The SolarDOM also retains LG’s rounded cooking cavity, which is designed to distribute heat more evenly and make better use of the 38L interior.

For those who would rather not think too hard about cooking settings, there are 57 automatic programmes covering everything from defrosting to roasting. The appliance can also connect to LG’s ThinQ app for additional controls and features.
The appeal here is fairly straightforward: instead of finding space for a microwave, air fryer and oven, you get one appliance that can handle all three jobs, along with a few extras.
The new LG SolarDOM is available through the LG South Africa website and selected retailers for R15 999.
