iPhone 17 prices and pre-order in South Africa

Apple unveiled its iPhone 17 range earlier this week that includes four devices, three new Apple Watch models, and the AirPods Pro 3.

The iPhone 17 range with Apple Intelligence comprises of the base model iPhone 17, and instead of the iPhone Plus, we got a new iPhone Air model, alongside the usual iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max.

The one consistent thing now is all phones start with 256GB of base storage, and the top of the range 17 Pro Max will come in a 2TB storage option. All selfie-cameras get an 18MP upgrade, supports square selfies and dual capture.

On the Apple Watch front, the three new models are the Apple Watch Ultra 3, Apple Watch Series 11 and finally, a new Apple Watch SE 3 that people have been waiting for.

Alongside the AirPods Pro 3 announcement, Apple announced a new Live Translation feature, which will also extend to the AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). It will be available when iOS26 comes out on Friday, 19 September. The catch? You also need an iPhone with Apple Intelligence enabled. The list is here.

iPhone 17 Quick Look

iPhone 17: Features a 6.3-inch Always On display, runs on the A19 chip, gets the 120Hz ProMotion display for the first time with 3000nits of brightness, and has faster wired charging. The 48MP camera bump is now pill shaped instead of a square, and it has 2x optical zoom. It is made from aluminium and colours include pastels like lavender, sage, mist blue, white and of course black.

iPhone Air: It is ultra thin at 5.6mm and weighs 165g; it is the thinnest iPhone yet. It features a 6.5-inch Always On display, runs on the A19 Pro chip, has a 120Hz display, and a 48MP single lens with Dual Capture and Audio Mix (with Spatial Audio), which has 2x optical zoom. It is made from titanium and colours include sky blue, light gold, black and white.

iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max: The new Pros run have moved back to an aluminium design with a 6.3-inch display on the 17 Pro and 6.9-inch display on the 17 Pro Max. Naturally, the larger phone has the bigger battery. Both run on the A19 Pro chipset, now have three 48MP rear lenses with 4x optical zoom and a vapour cooling chamber. It has a fast USB-C 3 charging speeds, and 25W wireless charging speeds. Colours include cosmic orange, deep blue and silver.

A day after the September 9 event, the iStore announced pre-orders open in South Africa on Friday, 12 September, with availability a week later on 19 September. Once again SA is included in the first wave of countries.
