Last week Samsung finally rolled out a software update that allows you to remap the Bixby button. It’s been one of the most requested features because a) how many times have you accidentally hit it and b) who has had any luck using Bixby?
The remapping will work on Samsung models from the Galaxy S8 upwards to the newest S10 Plus.
As far as digital voice assistants go, I’m personally sold on Google Assistant, it’s better than Siri, too. However, very sneakily, you cannot replace it with Google Assistant, well from my understanding, it’s not straight-forward so if you want to perform some tweaks just for this, check out Digital Trends.
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to remap it now:
STEP 1: Launch Bixby as you normally would.
STEP 2: Tap into the three dots on the middle on the right of the screen to go into Settings
STEP 3: Scroll down to ‘Bixby key’ and tap into it
STEP 4: Choose between a ‘single press’ or ‘double press’ option to either launch an app of your choice, but remember the other option automatically launches Bixby anyway.
My advice here is to use the single press for an option of your choice because you’re not likely going to double press it by accident. Whatever option you choose, Bixby will be default on the other. I mean of course we can’t remove it completely.
I’ve made mine Twitter for now, until I change it to something else!
