Instagram will show users how much time they are spending on the app through a new “Usage Insights” feature, which I came across on the Verge here this morning. I am guessing this feature is for business accounts only (because Facebook), which I used to have on my personal profile but disabled shortly after using it when it launched.
If you use an iPhone, you can already see how much time you spend on Instagram, or any app for that matter, over a 24 hour or 7 day period. Here’s how to find it in three easy steps:
STEP 1: Go into ‘Settings’
STEP 2: Tap on ‘Battery’
STEP 3: You will now see your activity on two tabs: Last 24 Hours and Last 7 Days. Here you can see by default the percentage of time spent on each app. Tap on the little clock icon to the right, and there you have it.. a breakdown of the actual time you spend on apps, split by on-screen time and background time.
The percentage of course tells you what uses the most battery and sometimes, as you can see above, 1 minute on screen and 27 mins in the background of Apple Music uses the same amount of battery as 45 mins on Safari (this screenshot is not my personal usage).
Mine currently shows that despite me spending more time on Twitter, Instagram uses more battery even though I spend less time on it. Also a good way to see what apps you want to cut down your usage.
Android does not offer this level of battery breakdown, from what I’ve seen on the Huawei P20 Pro. It just shows a percentage only.
