Ford confirms Mustang Mach-E not coming to South Africa

At Ford’s 100 year celebration in South Africa in November 2023, it announced a slate of new vehicles heading to local shores, one of them the all-electric compact crossover Mustang Mach-E.

At the event, Kay Hart, president of Ford’s International Markets Group said: “I am delighted to announce that in 2025 we will be taking South Africa into a new electrified era and bringing new customers to our dealerships with the launch of the all-electric Mustang Mach-E.”

“Mach-E represents a landmark moment for us as it shows our commitment to a cleaner, greener and electric future in South Africa, symbolising Ford’s vision for a better tomorrow globally.”

Fast forward to November 2024 and Ford South Africa’s Corporate Communications Manager Duduzule Nxele tells Recharged via email that the Mustang Mach-E will no longer be coming to South Africa.

“Ford no longer plans to introduce the Mustang Mach-E to South Africa due to ongoing low demand for premium EV passenger vehicles in the market,” says Nxele.

“We still see a future for EVs in South Africa and look forward to sharing how we plan to best meet this need in future.”

Ford South Africa did not respond to follow up questions.

It’s such a pity we will not be getting the Mustang Mach-E, I was looking forward to it. I remember the first time I saw one in Oslo, in November 2022 and grabbed not-the-best photo.

Perhaps things will change in the future.
